In South Korea, the average annual paper consumption per person is approximately 190kg. Compared to the global average of 60kg per person, this is a significant amount. To address the increasing paper consumption issue, a Paperless Campaign has been initiated to reduce paper usage in the workplace.

Paperless refers to creating a work environment that minimizes paper usage by utilizing electronic documents. According to the Korea Internet & Security Agency, by 2023, the electronic document market is expected to generate a market value of around 1.6 billion USD, and businesses using electronic documents can anticipate economic cost savings of approximately 0.8 billion USD. Banks Go Paperless: The Cases of KFCC and Shinhan Bank

KFCC(Korean Federation of Community Credit Cooperatives) has been promoting the Paperless Campaign since November 2021. Through this campaign, KFCC actively participated in environmental protection efforts by minimizing paper usage and improving wasteful paper-related tasks.
Shinhan Bank aims to reduce paper consumption by 200 million sheets annually through their Paperless Campaign. According to Shinhan Bank, they plan to transition investment prospectuses and contracts for trust and fund products to mobile notifications or email, thereby achieving paper savings.
Telecommunication Companies Also Take Action: The Case of SK Telecom
SK Telecom has announced the issuance of mobile receipts instead of paper receipts at their branches and stores. According to the SK Telecom website, after the campaign, approximately 18 million mobile receipts were issued in 2021. This resulted in saving 81 tons of paper, 1,377 trees (30-year lifespan), and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 51.84 tons.
Eliminating Paper in Shopping: The Case of Hyundai Department Store

In 2022, Hyundai Department Store became the first in the industry to reduce the issuance of paper receipts. Instead of providing paper receipts, customers receive electronic receipts through the store's mobile app, contributing to the Paperless Campaign.
